OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Benedictine Men's Basketball fell to William Penn on Tuesday night as the No. 2 seed Statesmen earned an 88-73 win over the No. 7 seed Ravens.
William Penn led from the start, but Benedictine remained within striking distance until just under 9 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Ravens erased a 12-point deficit to pull within 6 three separate times, the final time on a Drew Purdy lap with 8:55 left before halftime.
Benedictine hit 42.4 percent from the floor in the second half, hitting 6 of their 8 3-pointers in the second half. They opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers from Jack Vander Woude that allowed Benedictine to pull within 10 points inside the first two minutes of the half.
William Penn's largest lead of the game pushed to 23 points twice before Larry Parker III pulled Benedictine back within 12 points with just over 3 minutes left in the game.
William Penn was able to slow the Ravens offensive momentum and maintained their double-figure lead down the stretch to earn the 15-point win.
Benedictine finished with 4 players in double figures, led by Vander Woude with 17. Deaglan Sullivan finished with 12 points while Reynolds was joined by Brycen LaRue with 11 points.They finished the game with a 21-14 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored the Statesmen 36-28 in the paint.
