After earning their fifth straight win to open the series with Briar Cliff University, Benedictine Baseball dropped the final three games of their home series with the Chargers to drop their first series of the season.
Benedictine won 3-2 in the series opener, before Briar Cliff took game two 4-3 in extra innings. Saturday, the Chargers took game three, 6-4, before finishing off the series with a 10-1 win.
Benedictine 3, Briar Cliff 2
The Ravens scored 2 runs in the fourth and a third in the sixth that proved to be enough run support for Parrish Beagle and Ryan Jackson on the hill.
Beagle went 5 innings, holding the Chargers to 1 run off 5 hits with 4 strikeouts before Jackson threw the final 2 innings to earn the save with 3 strikeouts.
Brice Martin went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI while Carson Hintz added a double. Matthew Johnson recorded the final RBI.
Briar Cliff 4, Benedictine 3
After Benedictine tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, Briar Cliff scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.
The Ravens used sixth pitchers in the loss as Scott Matzke earned the start and went 2.2 innings where he allowed 2 earned runs off 5 hits with 4 strikeouts. Nolan Haas, Lance Bolles, Anthony Sanders, Ethan Arnold and Nich Bauer finished off the game with Sanders suffering the loss.
Martin added his second 2-hit game of the series and was joined by Hintz with a RBI. Brylan Haas added a double in the loss.
Briar Cliff 6, Benedictine 4
A 3-run fifth proved to be the difference in game three of the series, as the Chargers took the opener on Saturday.
Nic Mozingo went 5 innings, giving up 5 earned runs off 7 hits with 9 strikeouts to suffer the loss. Nolan Haas gave up 1 run in one-third of an inning before Jackson shutdown the Chargers over the final 1.2 innings.
Hintz finished the game with a home run while Elijah Reeves added a double. Reeves, Martin and Hintz added an RBI each.
Briar Cliff 10, Benedictine 1
The Chargers used a 7-run fourth inning to break open the series finale and earn the series win.
The Ravens were limited to 5 hits at the plate as Reeves added a double while Martin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Ryan McDougal suffered the loss, earn the start and throwing the first 2.1 innings. In total, the Ravens used 7 pitchers over the rest of the game.Â
The Ravens hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to the University of St Mary on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Spires starting at 2 p.m.
