Benedictine Baseball closed out its pre-conference slate on Thursday, falling to Avila University 18-13 in a gusty single, 9-inning game at Olsen Stadium.
Only four half-innings went scoreless on Thursday as Benedictine held Avila scoreless into the top of the first and third while Avila held Benedictine scoreless in the bottom of the third and ninth.
Avila used a 4-run top of the ninth to turn a 1-run game into a 5-run win.
The Ravens recorded their 13 runs off 12 hits with just two extra-base hits as CJ Serrano and Daniel Ornelas each recorded a double. Serrano and Bryce Martin finished with 3 RBI each while Michael McCavitt went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. As a team, the Ravens 7 stolen bases with McCavitt leading the way with 3. Serrano and Martin added 2 each.Â
Anthony Sanders suffered the loss, throwing 1.1 innings and gibing up 2 runs off 1 hit. In total, the Ravens used 9 total pitchers. Elijah Reeves earned the start and finished his inning with 1 strikeouts while Adam Fairbetter added 3 strikeouts throwing the final inning.
Benedictine hosts William Woods University to open Heart play, starting with a Noon doubleheader on Friday and concluding with a Noon doubleheader on Saturday.
