MNU takes final home series over Baseball

Benedictine Baseball hosted is final conference series of the season against MNU on Thursday and Saturday, celebrating Senior Day on Saturday.

The Pioneers earned a sweep over the Ravens taking Thursday's doubleheader, 9-5 and 10-3, before taking the series with a pair of wins, 7-2 and 9-1, on Saturday.

Game 1: MNU 9, Benedictine 5
A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in the series opener as MNU took a 7-1 lead at that point in the game.

Anthony Sanders earned the start on the hill, and suffered the loss throwing 5 innings. He allowed 7 runs off 5 hits. 

At the plate, Elijah Reeves went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI while Korey Messick added 2 RBI.

Game 2: MNU 10, Benedictine 3
The Ravens were limited at the plate in the second game of the series, as MNU held Benedictine to four hits in the loss.

Ryan McDougal suffered the loss on the hill, giving up 4 runs off 8 hits with 5 strikeouts over 5 innings. 

Brice Martin went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored while Michael McCavitt recorded 2 RBI. Daniel Ornelas went 1 for 3 with a run scored and RBI to round out the Ravens efforts at the plate.

Game 3: MNU 7, Benedictine 2
The Pioneers used a 5-run sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and earn their first win on Saturday.

Scott Matzke went 6 innings in the loss, giving up 6 earned runs off 8 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Messick went 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run and 2 runs scored while Martin added a double. Oliver Ferris added a pinch-hit RBI single in the fifth inning to tie the game.

Game 4: MNU 9, Benedictine 1
The Pioneers scored 5 runs in the top of the first while holding the Ravens to 6 hits to earn the sweep.

Reeves went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and RBI while Brylan Haas added a double. McCavitt rounded out the Ravens offensive efforts, finishing game four 2 for 3 at the plate. 

The Ravens wrap up the home scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday with return game against the University of St. Mary inside Olsen Stadium before heading to Fayette, Mo., for the final series of the regular season against Central Methodist.
