BALDWIN CITY – The (RV) Benedictine-Baker rivalry added another chapter on Tuesday night as the Ravens and Wildcats met on Cavaness Field for a Heart softball doubleheader.
Benedictine and Baker split the doubleheader with the Ravens winning game one, 6-2, and the Wildcats winning game two, 5-1.
In the opener, the Ravens rallied around a complete-game effort inside the circle from Bailey Selvage. Selvage limited the Wildcats to just 2 runs off 9 hits over 7 innings with 10 strikeouts.
Benedictine broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Amanda Waymire. That opened up the scoring for the Ravens as they scored 6 unanswered in support of Selvage before the Wildcats scored in the bottom half of the seventh.
Waymire went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI while she added a double and home run to her single. Kaleigh Small added a double while Rhiannon Martin finished with a triple. Megan Forsman and Reagan Enright added 2 hits each to round out the Ravens efforts at the plate.
The Wildcats salvaged the split, holding the Ravens to just 1 run off 7 hits in game two.
Lily SingDhillon suffered the loss, throwing 4.1 innings. She allowed 4 runs off 4 hits before Lacey Foster finished off the final 1.1 innings inside the circle in the loss.
Forsman went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double while Ashley Rindom recorded a pinch-hit single to drive in the Ravens lone run.
The Ravens remain on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for a doubleheader against No. 17 Grand View University.
