FAYETTE, Mo. – After splitting the first two games of their series with Central Methodist, Baseball was held in check over the final two games of the series as the Eagles earned the series win over the Ravens.
Friday, after dropping the opener 3-2, the Ravens rallied for a 4-1 win to even the series. Saturday, the Eagles picked up a pair of wins, 4-1 and 5-0, to take the series and end the Ravens season at 23-23 overall.
Game 1: CMU 3, Benedictine 2
The Eagles rolled to scored three unanswered in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the 3-2 win over the Ravens in the series opener.
The Ravens held a 2-0 lead headed into the bottom of the fifth after and RBI single from Cooper Milroy and an RBI groundout from Korey Messick.
Scott Matzke earned the start on the hill, throwing 4 innings in the loss. He finished with 4 strikeouts while giving up 2 runs off 3 hits before Ryan McDougal threw the final 2 innings to suffer the loss.
Brice Martin went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double while Michael McCavitt added a double.
Game 2: Benedictine 4, CMU 1
The Ravens rallied for 3 runs in the fifth and held on for the win to split the Friday doubleheader.
Nic Mozingo earned the win, throwing 5 innings while striking out 5 before Ryan Jackson finished off the last 2 innings to earn the save with 2 strikeouts as he held the Eagles hitless.
Carson Hintz broke the 1-1 tie with a 2-run home run in the fifth that was followed by an RBI double from JK Sparks.
Elijah Reeves and Milroy joined Sparks with a double each. Hintz and Sparks went 2 for 3 while McCavitt added an RBI single.
Game 3: CMU 4, Benedictine 1
The Ravens were limited to just 5 hits at the plate in their second loss of the series.
McDougal earned the start, and threw 3 innings in the loss with 3 strikeouts.
Korey Messick went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double while the Ravens lone run was scored on a sac-fly off the bat of McCavitt.
Game 4: CMU 5, Benedictine 0
The Eagles clinched the series win with a shutout over the Ravens in the series finale.
Anthony Sanders suffered the loss on the hill, throwing 4 innings while allowing earned runs off 5 hits with 2 strikeouts.
McCavitt finished the series with a 2 for 3 effort at the plate to round out the season.
