(RV) Softball run in Heart Championship Tournament ends on Day 2

Ravens fall to Missouri Baptist, William Woods on Friday in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Benedictine Softball's run in the 2026 Heart Championship Tournament ended on the second day of the tournament on Friday.

After they dropped a tightly-contested game to top-seeded and No. 8 ranked Missouri Baptist University 4-3 in the Championship Bracket semifinals on Friday afternoon, William Woods University knocked the Ravens out of the tournament with a 2-0 win in Game 9 of the tournament in the Consolation Bracket.

Missouri Baptist 4, Benedictine 3
Each team's first runs of the game came off 2-run home runs in the fourth inning. Benedictine scored on a 2-run home from Rhiannon Martin before Missouri Baptist tied it with a 2-run home run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

From there, the Spartans added a 2-run fifth and then held the Ravens scoreless until the seventh inning. Amanda Waymire doubled in a run in the seventh with the game ending with a runner on third for the Ravens.

Bailey Selvage suffered the loss inside the circle. She went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs off 9 hits with 3 strikeouts in the loss.

At the plate, Martin added a double to her home run and she and Alena Velilla finished the game 2 for 3.

William Woods 2, Benedictine 0
A 2-run single in the second proved to be enough for William Wood to earn the win in the Ravens first game in the consolation bracket.

Lily SinghDhillon suffered the loss inside the circle, throwing 4 innings while allowing 2 runs off 3 hits with 3 strikeouts. Selvage entered in relief and threw 3 innings, adding 7 strikeouts while holding the Owls hitless.

Martin was joined by Megan Forsman and Ashley Rindow to record the Ravens three hits in the loss.

Benedictine currently sits at 33-18 overall and now waits until Tuesday to learn if that will be enough to give the program an at-large berth in the NAIA playoffs. The NAIA Selection Show that will announce the playoff field is scheduled for 5 p.m. on May 6.
