OVERLAND PARK – Benedictine Football's Anthony Lonergan was named the Heart Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Musco Lighting on Monday morning and by Monday afternoon, Lonergan was also named the NAIA Player of the Week.
The Ravens earned a 21-17 win over former No. 1 Grand View University on th road Saturday and Lonergan was involved in what proved to be the game-winning score.
With Benedictine trailing roughly midway through the fourth quarter, Lonergan pounced on a loose ball in the end zone - the result of a fumbled punt - to put the Ravens back in front. After a pair of defensive stops later in the fourth quarter, the Ravens earned the win to hand Grand View its first loss in 31 games and snapped the Vikings' 73-game regular-season winning streak.
Through four games this season, Lonergan now has 11 total tackles to go along with an interception, breakup and his fumble recovery on Saturday.
The Ravens return home on Saturday, hosting St. Ambrose University for Family Weekend. Kickoff from Larry Wilcox Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
