Men's Basketball travels to Omaha for Exhibition

OMAHA - The Raven men's basketball team remains on the road today for an exhibition contest against NCAA Div. I Nebraksa Omaha at Ralston Arena in Omaha.

As season ago, Benedictine hosted UNO in an exhibition inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium and fell 75-49.

This season, the Ravens taks a 8-4 mark into the game as the Mavericks have struggled as of late with a 2-10 overall record as they continue the transition to the NCAA Div. I level. UNO is two years removed from competing in the regions primary NCAA Div. II conference, the MIAA.

UNO is in its second season as a reclassifying Divisoin I school this season and will play a full schedule of conference games in its new league, the Summit League.

ABOUT UNO:

The 2012-13 season marks UNO's inaugural season playing at newly constructed Ralston Arena, which will serve as the new home of Maverick men's basketball, Omaha Lancers hockey and Omaha Beef indoor football. The Mavs begin a full Summit League schedule this year, and they will host 13 games at Ralston, including a game for the ESPN Sears BracketBusters series. ... On Nov. 9, Omaha hosted its first game in the facility, defeating Northern Illinois 77-64 in front of 2,224 fans. After a five-week, 10-game span of away games, the Mavericks return to Ralston on Tuesday to host Benedictine. ... The Mavericks are led by head coach Derrin Hansen, who is in his eighth year at the helm of the UNO program with a career record of 123-96.

EXTRA NUGGETS:

Tuesday marks a homecoming of sorts for several members of the Raven basketbal program. Head Coach Ryan Moody is an Omaha native and served as an assistant coach at UNO from 1997-2001. Junior forward Charlie Wallrapp played his high school ball at Skutt Catholic in Omaha and guard sophomore guard Luke Norville played his high school ball at Lewis Central in nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa. ... Benedictine actually holds the series lead over UNO 22-8.
