Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 17 Men's Soccer earns first shutout of 2013 with 1-0 win over Oklahoma City University

The No. 17 Raven men's soccer team took to their home field at the BC Soccer Complex for the first time in over a week on Sunday, hosting a non-conference match against nationally-recognized Oklahoma City University.

It took 51 minutes for the Benedictine (3-0) to notch their first goal of the match, but that was all they needed as they earned a 1-0 win handing head coach Rob Herringer his 100th career victory as Benedictine's head men's soccer coach.

After scoring an early-season high four goals on Friday night on the road, all the Ravens needed on Sunday was the goal from Parker Melott of an assist from Joe Sbarro during the 51st minute of play.

The Ravens held a 5-3 advantage in shots at the half with keeper Taylor Vinnage turning away two shots on goal by Oklahoma City during the first 45 minutes of play.

Benedictine continued to stay patient in the second half offensively until a thru ball settled in front of Sbarro down the right flank. Sbarro beat his defender, enter the box and fed Melott who pushed it by Oklahoma City keeper Joe Shulberg for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Defensively, the Ravens limited the Stars to just four second-half shots as they finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Vinnage finished with three saves to earn his first shutout of 2013.

The Ravens return to the road on Wednesday as they travel to Bellevue, Neb., for a match against Bellevue University at 7 p.m. They return home on Sept. 11 to take on nationally-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University.
