OLATHE – With a three-set sweep over the MNU Pioneers on Tuesday night, the Raven Volleyball team snapped a 13-match losing streak to MNU.
Benedictine (14-9, 9-3 Heart) won 28-26, 27-25, 25-23 to earn the sweep over MNU (6-20, 4-8 Heart) and split the regular-season series with the Pioneers.
Benedictine's last win over MNU came back on Sept. 1, 2009 when they earned a sweep over the Pioneers.
Tuesday, the Ravens finished the match with a .211 hitting percentage. They finished with 46 kills as a team and were anchored by the attack of Fleur Wesselink with 18 kills as she finished with a .385 attack percentage. Makenna Ketter added eight while Sydney Wiedenmann added seven.
Paxton Throne set up the offensive attack with 39 assists as the Ravens finished the match with 42.
Defensively, Abby Brown and Throne led the team in digs with 14 and 13 respectively. Ketter, Elizabeth Nobert and Sara Rahmanzai finished with two block assists each.
The Ravens return home on Thursday to take on Friends University. Thursday marks the Ravens Dig Pink Match with proceeds going to the fight against Breast Cancer. Their are two matches on Thursday, the Junior Varsity are scheduled to play at 5 followed by the Varsity at 7 p.m. There will be a special presentation during the Varsity match between sets two and three as the programs honors and recognizes three individuals who have dealt with Breast Cancer either as a surviver or a someone currently fighting.
