The Volleyball Team hung close with the No. 21 Central Methodist University Eagles at home Thursday night, but in the end the Eagles left Atchison with a 3-0 win.
The Ravens lost 27-29, 20-25 and 17-25.
The first set, like most of the match, featured CMU taking a two or three point lead only to see the Ravens fight right back. Benedictine trailed but came back to tie the set at 20-20, 23-23 and 24-24. The Ravens moved in front 25-24 and again 27-26, but the Eagles were able to pull out the set win.
The second set was similar to the first. After the Ravens took a 10-9 lead early in the set, the Eagles came back to take a 14-12 lead. A back-and-forth battle ensued that saw the teams level at scores of 15-15 and 18-18. The Eagles grabbed control at that point, going on to win by five points.
The Ravens were right there with the Eagles in the early portion of the third set, too. BC and CMU were tied 10-10 and then the Eagles took a 16-14 lead to force a Ravens timeout. Then, with the Ravens down 17-20, the Eagles scored five-straight points to win the set and take the match.
Fleur Wesselink led the Ravens with 14 kills and finished with a hit percentage of .244. She also had 12 digs and two block assists. Makenna Ketter added nine kills with a hit percentage of .273, and Sara Rahmanzai and Sydney WIedenmann each had six kills.
Paxton Throne had 30 assists and eight digs. Abby Brown led the team with 13 digs and Hailey Folkers had 10 digs. Rahmanzai had two block assists and Ketter and Elizabeth Nobert each had one block assist.
The Ravens return to the court in a hurry. Benedictine will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 against the Missouri Valley Vikings in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
