The Ravens Women's Soccer team put a shot on goal in the final seconds of the second extra period Friday night at the BC Soccer Complex, but the Hastings Broncos cleared the ball to preserve a 0-0 draw.
No. 2 Benedictine College and No. 23 Hastings battled through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 overtime minutes, but neither team was able to find a goal. The Ravens had 14 shots compared to six for the Broncos, with Benedictine turning up the pressure in the second half. Both teams recorded three shots in the first half; neither side put a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, though.
In the second half, Benedictine pushed forward against the Hastings defense, recording six shots, four of which required saves from Hasting's Sarah Carpenter.
However, the Ravens were unable to find a goal in the second half, forcing overtime. Benedictine had two shots in the first 10-minute extra period and three more in the second extra period. None of those shots came as close as an attempt by Emily Ambuul with the final seconds ticking off the clock. Olivia Meyers sent a corner kick into the box that eventually found the feet of Ambuul, who put a shot on frame. The Broncos defense was in good position, though, and a defender cleared the shot off the line and the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The Broncos controlled possession in the opening minutes of the match, but never had a serious threat to score until the second half. The only Hastings shot on goal was saved by Raven keeper Ashley Rehagen, who earned the clean sheet and played all 110 minutes in goal.
Most of the offensive pressure in the match came from the Ravens. Benedictine earned five corner kicks and were led in shots by Nicole Kelly, who had five. Ambuul had four shots, Anna Romano had three and Abbie Hair took two shots.
The Broncos were whistled for 21 fouls, compared to 15 for the Ravens.
The next match for the Ravens will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Leavenworth against the University of St. Mary.
