The No. 12-ranked Raven Men's Basketball team remained perfect in Heart of America Conference play on Saturday, defeating the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats 86-62 inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
The Ravens took control early in the game thanks to hot shooting inside the paint. The Ravens shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the first half and 57.9 percent in the game while not shooting quite as hot behind the 3-point line as they had in previous games. The team was 8-of-24 behind the arc in the game; they entered the game averaging 11 made 3-pointers per game.
Adam Kutney scored the opening basket of the game 32 seconds in and the Ravens held the lead the remainder of the game. The first-half lead got as high as 18 points when Thomas O'Conner sank a pair of free throws to make it 41-23. It was a 46-31 lead at halftime.
A bucket by Wills Wallrapp with 11:53 to play in the second half pushed the lead to 64-41. The Wildcats went on a small run, cutting the Ravens lead by 10 points with just under 5 minutes to play. The answer came in the form of an and-one play by Jaiden Bristol, then a bucket by Kutney to quickly get the lead back to 18 points. The Ravens finished the game on a 16-5 run to completely close out the Wildcats.
O'Connor led the way with 18 points, but it was a balanced attack for the Ravens. Kutney added 17 points, Eric Krus had 15 and Bristol had 11 points. The ball movement was key to the offensive success as the Ravens had 19 assists on 33 made baskets. They also had just eight turnovers in the game. In contrast, the Wildcats had six assists and 12 turnovers.
The win is the 12th straight for the Ravens as they improve to 13-2 overall and 9-0 in Heart action. The last Ravens loss came on Nov. 5 at Park University. The next challenge for the Ravens will be No. 20 Peru State College on Thursday, Jan. 10 in Peru, Neb.
