(14) Central Methodist takes final three sets in 3-1 win over Volleyball

The Raven Volleyball team opened up Homecoming on Saturday pushing No. 14 Central Methodist University to four sets before the Eagles were able to win the match 3-1.

After taking the first set 25-23, the Ravens throughout the next three sets but couldn't push through as the Eagles earned the win.

Trailing 23-19 in the opening set, the Ravens rallied to score sis straight points to earn the first set win. The Raven rally was sparked by kills from Elizabeth Nobert and Donetta Cage and then sealed with three straight blocks from a combination of Nobert, Cage and Kate Hanson.

After being held to just a .088 attack percentage in the first set, the Eagles started to click on the attack in set two. They hit .270 while holding the Ravens to .079 in the second set en route to the win and then followed that up with a match-high .389 effort in the third set to earn a 25-20 win. Benedictine also had their best attack effort in the third set, finishing at .379.

The fourth set saw the Eagles jump out to an early 8-2 advantage which proved to be too much for the Ravens to overcome as they fell 25-14.

The Ravens finished the match hitting .153 as they recorded 41 kills. Fleur Wesselink led the attack with 10 kills while Nobert was close behind with eight. Paxton Throne anchored the attack for the Ravens as she finished with 27 of the Ravens 36 kills.

Defensively, the Ravens recorded 51 digs as Hannah Thomazin finished with 15 while Wesselink added 11. Nobert finished with four block assists while Hanson added two.

The Ravens close out the regular season at home on Tuesday as they host Evangel University at 7 p.m. back inside Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
