Women's Soccer grabbed control of Saturday's contest against the Mount Mercy Mustangs early, then ran away with a 7-0 win at Legacy Field. It was also a record-breaking night for the Lady Ravens.
Kat Reis's goal with under 10 minutes to play in the first half when her shot ricocheted off the left post and into the goal gave the Lady Ravens a 4-0 lead. Emily Ambuul had the assist on the Reis goal, giving her the most points of any player in Lady Ravens history, passing Rosie McShane and Sara Figoni, who each finished with 137 points. Ambuul now has 138 points.
The first Lady Ravens goal came when Emma Strecker sent a cross from right to left that found the head of Ambuul, who headed it back up in the air and then Nicole Kelly headed it past the Mustangs keeper seven minutes into the match. The goal was Kelly's 20th of the season, making her the first player in program history to score 20 or more goals in multiple seasons.
The Lady Ravens lead grew 10 minutes later. Hannah Schmit sent in a cross from the left side and Sydney Routh needed one touch to push the Lady Ravens lead to 2-0.
With 22:30 left to play in the first half, Ambuul added to the Lady Ravens lead thanks to an assist by Isabelle Wilhelm, making it 3-0. Reis later scored to give the Lady Ravens a 4-0 cushion at the half.
Schmit continued the scoring in the second half, scoring on an assist by Routh two minutes into the half. Kelly notched another goal with 30 minutes left in the match, knocking a strong left-footed shot into the corner of the net.
Natalie Duque put her name in scorebook in the 65th minute, floating one over the keeper after an assist by Schmit.
The Lady Ravens had 27 shots, 15 on goal, compared to two shots, one on goal, for the Mustangs. Ashley Rehagen had one save in goal in 45 minutes while Olivia Berry played keeper the entire second half without facing a shot on goal.
The 7-0 win improves the Lady Ravens record to 10-2, 4-1 in Heart of America play. It's a quick turnaround for the Lady Ravens as they'll play at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 against Graceland University, again at Legacy Field.
