Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

John Brown holds off second-half push in win over Men's Basketball

A second-straight slow start turned out to be too much to overcome for Men's Basketball Saturday evening in Atchison. The (9) Ravens lost to the John Brown University Golden Eagles 78-65 after falling behind by 19 at halftime.

After getting dominated on the boards in the first half, the Ravens upped their effort on the boards in the second half, pulling down the same amount as the Golden Eagles in the second half. That allowed the Ravens to pull within single digits with 6:37 to play, but they didn't have enough gas in the tank to complete the full comeback.

The Ravens fell victim to hot shooting and that strong rebounding by the Golden Eagles in the first half. JBU shot 50 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including 7-of-11 from deep. The Golden Eagles also grabbed 22 rebounds (10 offensive) in the first half, compared to six boards for the Ravens.

The second-chance points, couple with 10 turnovers by the Ravens, gave the Golden Eagles too many opportunities in the first half. The Ravens didn't shoot poorly in the opening half, converting on 47.3 percent of their shots, but they had nine fewer attempts and trailed by 19 at halftime.

The Ravens finished the game shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 39.3 from long range while JBU was 47.3 and 42.9, respectively. JBU's Luke Harper led all scorers with 28 points while Jaiden Bristol had 20 to pace the Ravens. Jayden Temme added 12 points, sinking four 3-pointers.

Next up for the Ravens (1-3) will be another non-conference game when they host (24) Park University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Ralph Nolan Gym.
