Men's Basketball lost a close battle with the Park University Pirates Tuesday in Atchison, falling 60-56.
The (9) Ravens were within a single basket with 16 seconds to play, but (24) Park rebounded a missed 3-pointer, then made a free throw to close out the game.
Down 4 points at halftime, the Ravens struggled in the early moments of the second half, falling behind 42-29 5 minutes into the second half. The Ravens showed some resiliency though, going on a 10-point run sparked in part by stellar play at both ends of the floor by Tyson Cathy. The sophomore pulled down three rebounds, blocked a shot and made a basket during the run.
Park withstood the run, though, holding onto the lead. The Ravens got to within 1 point with a minute to play, but the Pirates were able to close out the game.
The first half foreshadowed the end of the game as the Pirates took a double-digit lead only to watch the Ravens come storming back. However, just as the game would end, the Pirates held a 4-point lead at halftime.
The Ravens entered the game knowing the Pirates worked hard for rebounds and didn't turn the ball over much. Park (3-0) averaged 45 boards per game and just 12 turnovers. The Ravens (1-4) were able to match the Pirates on the glass as each team grabbed 36 rebounds, plus the home squad forced 24 Park turnovers. Unfortunately for the Ravens, they had 23 turnovers of their own.
Another tough area for the Ravens was shooting behind the 3-point line as they went 2-of-11 in both the first and second half, finishing at 18.2 percent from deep.
Cathy led the team with 12 points while pulling down five rebounds to go with two blocked shots. Jaiden Bristol had 10 points, six boards, and four steals.
The Ravens open up Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday, Nov. 16 with a road trip to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to take on (4) William Penn University.
