Men's Basketball was on the right side of a fast start in Wednesday's 68-52 win at home against the Baker University Wildcats.
The (9) Ravens had a couple of rough starts in the tough, early-season non-conference schedule, but that wasn't the case Wednesday.
The Ravens jumped out to a big early lead, going up 17-3 in the first few minutes of the contest. After the Wildcats closed the gap and got within 6 points, the Ravens ended the first half on a strong note, holding a 37-22 lead at the break.
The Ravens benefited from hot shooting from the outside, connecting on 6-of-11 shots from 3-point range. Matt Austin converted all four of his attempts from deep to lead the Ravens with 14 points at the half. The Ravens shot 52 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes to build their 15-point lead.
The Ravens weren't quite as hot on offense in the second half, but the defense kept the Wildcats from ever really getting within striking distance in the second half. At times in the second half, the Ravens built up a 21-point lead and forced 21 turnovers by the Wildcats in the game.
Austin led all scorers with 25 points and also had five steals on the defensive end to turn in a complete effort. Jayden Temme had 11 points and Wills Wallrapp chipped in 10 points.
The Ravens finished the contest shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 47.6 percent behind the 3-point line.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak and improves the Ravens record to 2-5 and 1-1 in Heart of America play. Baker falls to 3-4 and 1-1 in the conference.
Next up for the Ravens is a trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a Saturday game against the Mount Mercy University Mustangs.
