Hot start pushes Women's Basketball to second straight Heart win

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Raven Women's Basketball team opened up the game against Mount Mercy University on Saturday with a 13-0 run and never looked back en route to an 84-69 win.

Benedictine (7-1, 2-1 Heart) connected on over 40 percent from the field for the third straight game as they earned their second straight win in Heart play over the Mustangs.

Defensively, the Ravens forced the Mustangs into 20 turnovers which allowed them to hold a 12-2 advantage in points off turnovers as they committed just 11 – their second-fewest total this season Benedictine also held Mount Mercy to just nine field goals in the first half with just one 3-pointer.

The Mustangs managed to outscore Ravens 25-21 in the third quarter but the Ravens never allowed them within more than seven points in the second half.

Benedictine finished with a 38-27 advantage off the bench thanks to a team-high 14 points from Skylar Washington. LaRanda Thomas was close behind with 11 points while Grace Brzozowski, Kayla Staley, and Anna Sanjuan finished with nine points each. Benedictine finished the game with a 41.2 percent shooting effort while they connected on 11 3-pointers – a new season-high.

The Ravens remain on the road for their next Heart match up. They travel to Marshall, Mo., on Tuesday night for a 5:30 p.m. meeting with the Missouri Valley College Vikings.
