Men's Basketball couldn't overcome an ice-cold start against the Morningside Mustangs Friday night in Atchison.
The (9) Ravens lost 93-63 after falling behind by 28 points by halftime.
The first half couldn't have started much worse for the Ravens as the Mustangs were hot from the floor and took a 19-5 lead 10 minutes into the contest.
The Ravens struggled to knock down shots, leading to a 40-12 Morningside lead at halftime. In the first half, the Ravens shot 17.4 percent from the field while the Mustangs connected on 57.1 percent of their attempts. When the Ravens missed, the Mustangs didn't let them get second-chance looks. Morningside out-rebounded the Ravens 23-9 in the first half and limited the home squad to one offensive board.
The shots started to fall for the Ravens in the second half as they shot 56.7 percent from the floor and made 9-of-15 from behind the arc, scoring 51 points in the final 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the Mustangs, who are ranked No. 4 in NAIA Division II, were even hotter in the second half than they were in the first half. Morningside shot 63 percent from the field in the second half, finishing the game with a 60.3 field goal percentage.
The Mustangs had a 40-19 rebounding advantage, as well.
Jaiden Bristol led the Ravens with 15 points, four assists, and three steals while Colby Nickels added 10 points.
The Ravens (1-2) won't have to wait long to wash the bad taste out of their mouths; they'll play John Brown University at 5 p.m. Saturday in Atchison in the final game of the Holiday Inn Express Classic.
