The Raven Baseball team wrapped up their three-game Heart divisional series on Saturday with a split against MNU.
After the Pioneers took the opener, 7-6, the Ravens rallied to earn the split taking the series finale 6-5 in 10 innings.
Kam Miller earned the start in game one Saturday for Benedictine (12-3, 5-2 Heart). He suffered a no-decision as he threw the first four innings with four strikeouts while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Jacob Slaten suffered the loss as he was credited with the go-head run after throwing two-thirds of an inning in relief.
At the plate, the Ravens outhit the Pioneers 11-9 but stranded six runners in the loss. Michael Slaten finished with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored while Jacob Pavlyak added a home run with two hits. Austin Watamaniuk and Brendan Glock added a double each while Glock and Drew Piontek finished with the remaining two RBI.
The Ravens needed two rallies in the late innings of the series finale to earn the win in game two on Saturday. Doubles by Pavlyak, Andrew Richards and Danny Favazza allowed the Ravens to score three runs and take the lead for the first time over the Pioneers. After giving up a run on a solo home run by MNU in the top of the ninth, the Ravens scored the game winner in the bottom of the 10th. Daryl Myers drove in Matt Piontek, who was running for Nathan Huber, on a single through the hole at second base to give the Ravens the win.
Myers, Favazza and Richards finished the game with two hits each. Richards added a home run and four RBIs to round out the Ravens efforts at the plate.
The Ravens used six pitchers on the hill in the win. Jacob Curry threw the final inning earn his first win of the season. Luke Caruthers earned the start and threw five innings for the Ravens. He gave up four runs off six hits with three strikeouts for a no-decision.
The Ravens step out of Heart play for a single, nine-inning game on Monday at 2:30 as they host Hastings College on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.
