Softball returns to action with sweep over Kansas Wesleyan

MCPHERSON – The Raven Softball team was back in action on Saturday as they took on Kansas Wesleyan University in McPherson as the Coyotes home field in Salina was unplayable.

Benedictine (8-8) earned the sweep taking game one 9-6 and game two 16-6.

Erin Ziebarth earned the start in game one inside the circle. She threw the first six and one-third innings to earn the win as she finished with four strikeouts while giving up three earned runs off nine hits.

The Ravens recorded five hits for extra bases. Sarah Methvin, Lilly Ross, Abbie Hyde and Meghan Krantz each recorded a double while Regina Splane added a triple. Ross and Blair Shanks led the Ravens with two RBIs each.

In game two, Alex Gilham earned the start inside the circle. She finished with three strikeouts while giving up two runs off six hits to earn the win.

At the plate, the Ravens scored their 16 runs off 17 hits. Alex Burris went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI. Methvin, Ross, Hyde and Molly Chevalier all added doubles. Ross added four RBI while Shanks finished with three.

The Ravens are scheduled to host MNU on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the BC Softball Field inside of the Asher Sports Complex. Weather could force a postponement of the game, so be sure to check out www.ravenathletics.com for schedule updates as they are made.
