Softball sweeps doubleheader from MNU in home opener

After having their first four home series of the season canceled or postponed, the Raven Softball team finally took to the BC Softball Field inside of the Asher Sports Complex on Tuesday as they opened up Heart play with MNU.

The Ravens earned the sweep over the Pioneers in the doubleheader, taking game one 5-4 and then game two 7-2.

The Ravens got a pair of complete-game efforts inside the circle. Erin Ziebarth threw game one and earned the win while Alex Gilham earned the win in game two. Ziebarth finished with five strikeouts while giving up four runs off eight hits over seven innings. Gilham added six strikeouts while allowing one earned run off seven hits over her seven innings.

Alex Burris was the only Raven in game one with multiple hits a the plate as she went 2 for 4 with a pair of stolen bases. Lilly Ross hit an inside-the-park home runs while Abby Hyde recorded a double. Regina Splane led the Ravens with two RBI to round out the Ravens top hitters in the opener.

The Ravens broke out for 10 hits in game two. Molly Chevalier and Blair Shanks each recorded a pair of doubles while Hyde added a fifth double for the Ravens. Burris added her third hit on the afternoon, a triple, to finish the day with three hits. Shanks, Sarah Methvin and Chevalier finished with two RBI each to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.

The home stand continues on Saturday – weather permitting – as the Ravens host Mount Mercy University at 1 p.m.
