Softball earns Heart South sweep over (RV) Central Methodist

Taking to the BC Softball Field with an opportunity to gain sole possession of second place in the Heart South Standings on Tuesday, the Raven Softball team welcomed Central Methodist University to campus.

The Ravens earned a pair of wins over the Eagles, 9-5 and 4-2, to earn the sweep and move into second place in their division with 16 games in Heart play.

Leading 3-0 in game one, the Ravens gave up a five-run fourth to the Eagles and then followed that up with a six-run inning of their own to regain the lea for good.

Erin Ziebarth earned the win inside the circle in relief of Brianna Hoffman, who threw the first three and two-third innings. Ziebarth finished off the Eagles, holding them scoreless off five hits over three and one-third.

The Ravens continued to hit for extra bases at the plate. Blair Shanks and Megan Medhus each hit a double, Alex Burris added a triple and Tiffani Ray added a three-run home run during the Ravens fourth-inning rally. Shanks finished with three RBI while Medhus added two.

In game two, the difference in the final outcome was a three-run fifth inning that was sparked by a lead-off home run from Sarah Methvin. The Ravens scored four runs over the fifth and sixth and then held off a seventh-inning rally by the Eagles to wrap up the sweep.

Alex Gilham earned the win inside the circle. She threw six and one-third innings before Ziebarth entered in the seventh to finish off CMU for the save.

Methvin and Shanks finished with a double each as they also drove in two runs each.

The Ravens are off until Saturday when they host No. 17 Baker University at 1 p.m. back at the BC Softball Field.
