Baseball opens final homestand with sweep over Peru State College

The Raven Baseball team opened their final homestand of the season on Thursday with a sweep over Peru State College in Heart cross-divisional play.

Benedictine (22-8, 13-7 Heart) earned a pair of 10-4 wins over Peru State (14-20; 11-10 Heart).

Michael Kruse took the hill in the opener for the Ravens and went four and one-third innings before Jacob Slaten finished off the Bobcats. Kruse gave up four runs off six hits to earn the win before Slaten held the Bobcats to just one hit over two and two-thirds to earn the save.

Offensively, the Ravens day at the plate was capped off with a two-run home run in game one off the bat of Drew Piontek - his first in a Raven uniform. Austin Watamaniuk and Jordan Williams recorded a double each with one RBI each.

In game two, Kam Miller earned the start on the hill. He went five innings before Slaten came in for his second relief appearance of the homestand. Miller gave up two earned runs off six hits to earn the win before Slaten threw the final two innings, giving up one one run off three hits to earn the save.

Daryl Myers capped off the offensive efforts on the day with a two-run home run. Watamaniuk finished with a triple and five RBI while Logan Finley went 3 for 4 with a triple and RBI.

The Ravens wrap up their conference home schedule on Saturday against Graceland University at Noon.
