OSKLOOSA, Iowa – The Raven Softball team wrapped a four-game weekend on Sunday with a sweep over William Penn University as they earned wins of 5-4 and 4-3. The sweep comes a day after the Ravens split their cross-divisional doubleheader with Culver-Stockton College.
The Ravens scored four unanswered in the opener with the Statesmen on Sunday to earn the win in game one. Alex Gilham earned the win in relief of Erin Ziebarth. Gilham threw the final four innings, holding William Penn scoreless off three hits with two strikeouts.
Four of the Ravens seven hits in game one were for extra bases. Sarah Methvin was the only Ravens with a two-hit game as she finished with a home run and RBI. Molly Chevalier went 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBI. Abby Hyde added a double while Megan Medhus finished with a triple.
In game two with the Statesmen, Gilham picked up her second win of the weekend as the Ravens used four pitchers in the win. She went one and one-third and was the pitcher of record when the Ravens took the lead for good in the fourth inning. Ziebarth earned the save, throwing one inning and holding the Statesmen to just one hit. It was her second save of the weekend as she also earned a save in the opener with Culver-Stockton on Saturday.
At the plate, the Ravens once again finished with seven hits, five of which were for extra bases. Hyde and Chevelier recorded a double each with Hyde adding two RBI. Hyde was also one of three Ravens with a home run in the win as she was joined by Tiffany Ray and Blair Shanks to leave the yard.
Ravens split doubleheader with Culver-Stockton
The Ravens opened their weekend with a 8-5 win over Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo., on Saturday. Brianna Hoffman picked up the win in game won throwing four and one-third innings before Ziebarth finished off the game for the save. Ray recorded two home runs and finished with six RBI as she went 4 for 4 adding a double. Hyde recorded a double while Shanks added a home run.
In game two, the Wildcats scored nine runs over the first two innings which proved to be too much for the Ravens to overcome. Gilham suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs off five hits over one and one-third innings. Medhus recorded a double and three RBI while Ray added a double at the plate in the loss.
The Ravens host Central Methodist University at 2 p.m. Tuesday in a divisional doubleheader out at the Asher Sports Complex.
