Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

(5) Women's Soccer scores 8 in win over William Woods

A balanced first and second half paced No. 5 Women's Soccer past the William Woods Owls Friday night in Atchison.

The Ravens won 8-0 to move to 5-1 on the season, scoring four goals in each half.

Emily Ambuul opened the scoring in the first five minutes, calmly collecting a loose ball in front of net and then beating Owl goal keeper Michyla Handley with her left foot. Nicole Kelly nearly doubled the Ravens lead a minute later, but Handley made a diving save to her right.

Kelly got the better of Handley in the 15th minute, though. Maisy Louree sent a terrific pass forward and Kelly slotted the second goal of the game.

Kelly got her second goal moments later, this time off an assist by Sydney Routh to put the Ravens up 3-0.

Later in the first half, Ambuul put a shot on goal that ricocheted off the right post. Emma Strecker settled the rebound, then sent a screaming shot past Handley to give the Ravens a 4-0 halftime lead.

The Ravens were aggressive forward in the first half, having five offside calls against them. They had seven shots on goal, compared to three on goal for the Owls – all saved by Ashley Rehagen.

Kelly picked up a hat trick in the 62nd minute, turning an Ambuul cross into the Ravens fifth goal of the game. Two minutes later, Sydney Routh got her name in the scoring column off an assist by Logan Heacock.

Routh notched her second goal of the game in the 75th minute and Kelly finished the night off with her fourth goal, lifting a floater over Handley on an assist from Madeline Stewart.

The Ravens finished the game with 18 shots and 12 shots on goal. The Owls put six total shots on goal, with Olivia Berry collecting three saves in the second half.

The Ravens will hit the road for their next two contest, playing at Columbia on Sept. 11 and then at Grand View on Sept. 17, which will be the opener of Heart of America play. The Ravens return home Saturday, Sept. 21 against William Penn.
