Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer earns second straight shutout with 2-0 win over Evangel

The Raven Women's Soccer team scored in each half while holding Evangel University scoreless on Saturday night on Legacy Field.

Benedictine got goals from Natalie Duque and Paulina Carles to earn their 2-0 win over the Crusaders.

Duque put the Ravens on the board during the 19th minute when she put a shot through the box off a free-kick deep in the corner.

The score remained at 1-0 into the 58th minute when Emma Strecker put a shot on frame that was deflected by an Evangel defender. The deflection found the head of Paulina Carles who beat the Crusaders keeper Abbey Schmidt for the Ravens second goal of the match.

The meeting between the two schools was the sixth overall meeting. The Ravens ran their shutout streak over the Crusaders to 540 minutes after securing their sixth shutout in the history of the series.

Benedictine held a 16-14 advantage in shots while they finished tied with Evangel with seven shots on goal. Raven keeper Olivia Berry, who earned her second start of the season, recorded six saves for her second shutout of the week.

Tuesday's road match scheduled with Missouri Valley College has been postponed so the Ravens will be off until Saturday when they hit the road for a match against Culver-Stockton College at 5 p.m. Their next match on Legacy Field is slated for Oct. 17 against Heart newcomer Park University.
