Men's Basketball downs Baker for first conference win, 76-64

BALDWIN CITY – The Raven Men's Basketball team converted 8 second-half 3-pointers en route to a 76-64 win over Baker University on Wednesday night.

Benedictine (4-2, 1-1 Heart) used timely 3-point shooting to hold off a late push by the Wildcats to earn their first win in conference play.

After going scoreless for nearly three minutes to start the game, but once they converted their first basket, they quickly took over the lead. The Ravens first 3-pointer of the night came from Tyson Cathy and gave the Ravens their first lead inside the first five minutes of play. Just over 10 minutes later Benedictine had pushed their lead to as much as 12 points before they took a 35-23 lead into halftime.

The Ravens finished the first half shooting 50 percent from the floor while Baker connected on 45.5 percent.

Benedictine built as much as a 15-point lead early in the second half before Baker gradually started to cut into the Ravens lead. Baker pulled within four points but by the midpoint of the second half, back-to-back 3-pointers from Jaiden Bristol and Ahmad Louis pushed the Ravens advantage back to double figures. Baker answered with a 10-0 run that cut Benedictine's lead down to one before the Ravens closed out the game outscoring Wildcats 17-4 to seal the win.

The Ravens finished the game with four players in double figures, led by the 18 points of Chris Jackson. Bristol finished with 16, Matt Austin added 14 while Cathy finished with 11. As a team, the Ravens finished the game shooting 50.9 percent from the floor while shooting 44.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line with a season-high 12 3-pointers.

Benedictine travels to Marshall, Mo., on Saturday for their next conference matchup as they take on Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m.
