Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Peru State limits Men's Basketball offensively in battle for Heart third place

Struggles on the offensive end doomed Men's Basketball Wednesday night.

The Ravens lost to the Peru State College Bobcats 73-55 to fall to 15-12 on the season, and 13-8 in Heart of America play.

An early 12-4 lead quickly disappeared for the Ravens. The Bobcats went on a 19-4 run to take a 23-16 lead and held a 34-27 lead at halftime. The Ravens struggled from deep in the first half, connecting on just 1-of-9 3-point shots. The Ravens were also out-rebounded by the Bobcats, 20-15, in the first half.

While struggling from the outside, the Ravens pushed the ball inside and picked up 20 points in the paint in the first half. Tyson Cathy led the way with 6 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Cold shooting plagued the Ravens in the second half, as well. While the Bobcats connected on 52.6 percent of their second-half shots, the Ravens shot 28.1 percent from the field. The outside shooting didn't get better in the second half, either, as the Ravens were 2-14 and finished at 13 percent from deep in the game.

The Ravens trimmed a 14-point deficit down to 7 points with 7 minutes to play in the game, but that was as close as they'd come to a comeback. Peru State answered with a 7-0 run to push their lead back to 14 points and the Ravens were never within single digits the remainder of the game.

Matt Austin led the Ravens with 17 points, two steals and a blocked shot. Cathy had 8 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, and Jaiden Bristol had 9 points and seven rebounds.

The Ravens will try to bounce back into the win column after two-straight losses when they play at Graceland University on Saturday, Feb. 22.
