CANTON, Mo. – The Raven Men's Basketball team held Culver-Stockton College to just 28.6 percent from the floor on Saturday en route to a 69-51 win over the Wildcats.
Benedictine used a 48.1 percent shooting effort in the first half to build an 11-point lead a the half and never looked back.
The Ravens opened the game up with seven straight points as Tyson Cathy and Matt Austin combined to score for the Ravens. They extended that lead to 10 on a 3-pointer by Austin inside the first seven minutes of the game. The Ravens largest lead of the first half came on another 3-pointer from Austin when he gave the Ravens a 13-point lead at the midway point of the first half.
Culver-Stockton closed the Benedictine lead down to six points before the Ravens closed out the half outscoring the Wildcats 7-2 as Jayden Temme capped off the run with a basket with two seconds left in the half to give the Ravens their 11-point halftime lead.
The Wildcats made a run to start the second half, that cut their deficit down to three points after a pair of free throws made it 37-34 with 16:39 left to play. Benedictine answered with baskets from Hunter Schneider, Eric Krus and Jaiden Bristol to push their lead back to double figures where their lead remained.
Benedictine finished the game shooting 46.4 percent from the floor with two players in double figures. Austin finished with 21 points off 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc while Temme added 12 points Eric Krus and Nysir Scott anchored the Ravens bench scoring that finished with a 25-16 advantage. Krus finished with 9 points while Scott added 7.
The Ravens return home on Wednesday where they will play three straight inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium. Benedictine opens their homestand at 7:30 p.m. against Missouri Valley College.
