GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (2) Raven Women's Lacrosse team scored 13 goals in their season opener on Saturday and played close with (1) SCAD-Savannah for a half before the Bees pulled away early in the second half to earn a 23-13 win over the Ravens.
After scored the games' first two goals, the Ravens answered with four straight of their own as Megan Ostrander, Aiden McEnerney and Mary McEnerney pushed the Ravens ahead 4-2 with just under 20 minutes left in the first half.
The next 20 minutes of play saw the teams combine for goals with SCAD scoring twice to every Benedictine goal before the Bees took a three-goal lead into halftime.
Benedictine's Molly Muehlbach answered SCAD's second-half opening goal before the Bees scored six straight goals to break the game open.
Kacey Moore led the Ravens with four goals off seven shots. Aiden McEnerney finished with three while Mary McEnerney and Natalie Wechter scored two each. Ostrander and Muehleback finished with one goal each. Wechter added two assists while Aiden McEnerney finished with one.
SCAD outshot Benedictine 55-33 while the Ravens held the advantage in ground balls with 22. Defensively, the Ravens forced 15 turnovers while tallying seven caused turnovers. Wechter led the way with two caused turnovers.
Teryn St. Louis suffered the loss in goal for the Ravens, playing all 60 minutes. She finished with 13 saves and one ground ball.
The Ravens remain on the road Saturday, traveling to Kansas City, Mo., to take on NCAA Div. II Rockhurst University at 10 a.m.
