Ottawa wins 13-11 shootout over Baseball on Laughlin Field

The Raven Baseball team served as the guest team on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium as they took on Ottawa University on Tuesday afternoon.

Benedictine was originally scheduled to play at Ottawa, but with the Braves still waiting for the installation of their new turf infield to be completed, the game was moved to Atchison. After giving up 10 runs in the bottom of the second, the Ravens rallied to tie the game in the seventh only to have the Braves score twice in the eighth to earn a 13-11 win.

Carson Kasl and Ben Costello combined to throw the final six and two-thirds innings in relief of starter Ryan Cox. Kasl gave up one run off four and held the Braves scoreless over his final three innings of work. Costello extending the Braves scoreless streak into the eighth before giving up a two-run home run to suffer the loss.

Both teams sent four pitchers to the hill. Austin Warfel earned the win for the Braves, throwing the final two innings while limiting the Ravens to just one hit.

Benedictine scored their 11 runs off 13 hits. The top four hitters in the lineup for the Ravens combined for eight hits as Jackson Doherty, Michael Slaten Danny Favazza and Jacob Pavlyak finished with two hits each. Pavlyak ignited the Ravens rally, recording a grand slam in the fourth inning to cap off a six-run inning. Pavlyak finished added a double to go along with a total of five RBI while Favazza finished with two RBI.

The Ravens return to Heart cross-divisional play on Saturday and Sunday with trips to Grand View University and William Penn University. Saturday's games in Des Moines start at 1 p.m. while Sunday's games in Oskaloosa, Iowa, start at 1 p.m.
