Ravens Volleyball ran into a stiff opponent at home Saturday afternoon.
The No. 10 ranked Central Methodist University Eagles topped the Ravens 3-0, snapping the Ravens winning streak.
The Eagles took the opening set, 25-18. The visitors built up a lead early in the set, and though the Ravens continued to fight, the home squad couldn't make up the deficit.
CMU was able to build an early lead again in the second set, surging to a 9-3 lead that forced a Ravens timeout. That lead expanded to 17-6 before the Ravens found their footing in the second set. The Ravens were able to out-score the Eagles 10-8 for the remainder of the set, but it was CMU that earned the 25-16 win to go up 2-0.
The Ravens came out much better in the third set, matching the Eagles point-for-point. However, CMU rattled off 7-straight points to take command of the set and take a 16-9 lead. That stretch is what doomed the Ravens as they lost 25-19, losing the match 3-0. Outside of that 7-0 stretch for the Eagles, the Ravens out-played CMU 19-18.
Haylie Dickerson led the Ravens attack with 10 kills while recording a scorching hot .692 hit percentage. Mary Pat Taylor had 8 kills, and Marea Wortmann and Katarina Vojvodic each had 5 kills. Wortmann also notched 26 assists and had 5 digs. Maggie Schoening was strong at the net, recording 4 blocks for the Ravens.
The loss snaps the Ravens (13-11, 8-6 Heart) four-match winning streak. The Eagles improve to 22-3 and 13-1 in Heart action.
Next up for the Ravens will be another home contest, this time at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22.
