Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer snaps losing streak with 2-0 win over William Penn

Men's Soccer snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday night.

The Ravens shut out the William Penn University Statesmen 2-0 to head into a road trip with positive momentum.

The Ravens scored their first goal in the 21st minute. Daniel Wee sent a pass inside the box and found Girma Kassa, who knocked it past the Penn keeper to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.

The Ravens maintained that lead into the halftime break as both teams struggled to find a rhythm on the field. There were plenty of stoppages in play as the Ravens were whistled for 17 fouls in the first half and the Statesmen were called for 13 fouls. Also, the Ravens had four players receive a yellow card in the opening 45 minutes, and WPU had three players receive a yellow card.

The Wee to Kassa combination worked again in the second half. With 16:48 left to play in the second half, Wee sent a ball into the box from the left side and Kassa flicked it past the keeper to double the Ravens lead to 2-0.

The Ravens made that two-goal lead stand, playing solid team defense to keep the hard-charging Statesmen from finding a goal. Carlos Flores made three saves in goal for the Ravens to earn the clean sheet.

The message sent by the referee in the first half worked; neither team was whistled for a card in the second half.

The Ravens (5-6, 2-4 Heart) will hit the road for a three-game road trip that begins Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Grand View University.
