SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University scored 32 points off 23 turnovers by Raven Men's Basketball on Tuesday night to earn a 78-67 win over Benedictine.
A cold start put the Ravens in a hole in the first half. Evangel held Benedictine to just one basket through the first 10 minutes of play as they pulled ahead 15-2 before Nysir Scott gave the Ravens their second basket of the game.
A 3-pointer from Jaiden Bristol and a basket from Eric Krus inside the final 90 seconds of the half cur Benedictine deficit to 9 points twice before Evangel took a 38-26 lead into halftime. After starting off cold, Benedictine outscored Evangel 24-23 over the final 10 minutes of the half.
The Ravens opened the second half with a 3-pointer from Krus and a basket from Scott to close their debit back to single digits at seven points. The Valor answered the hot start by the Ravens and outscored Benedictine 14-5 to push their lead back to 16 points, 52-36, with just under 15 minutes remaining. Over the next eight minutes, the Ravens outscored the Valor 21-8 to cut their deficit down to three points off a basket from Matt Austin.
That was all the closer Benedictine would get as Evangel closed out the game outscoring the Ravens by eight points over the remainder of the game to earn the 11-point win.
Benedictine finished the game shooting 49.1 percent from the floor with 8 3-pointers. Scott led three Ravens in double figures with 13 points, followed by Bristol with 12 and Jayden Temme with 12. Benedictine finished with a 34-26 advantage in points in the paint but gave up 18 second-chance points.
Benedictine returns home on Saturday to host (RV) Park University at 4 p.m.
