(RV) Women's Soccer advances to Heart Semifinals on Beffa golden-goal

OLATHE – The 2020 Heart Women's Soccer Postseason Tournament got underway around the conference on Saturday after being delayed from November to April. The Raven Women's Soccer team returned to Pioneer Field for the second straight postseason to take on higher-seeded MNU.

After beating MNU in the Heart Semifinals a season ago, Benedictine earned a 2-1 golden-goal win over the Pioneers this season in the Heart Quarterfinals.

MNU scored during the 34th minute and held that lead until the 83rd minute. Riley Degner scored off an assist from Rachel Beffa to even the game and eventually send it into extra time.

Beffa sent the Ravens into the next round when she crossed a shot from distance off a touch from Madeline Stewart during the first golden-goal period.

Benedictine finished the game outshooting the Pioneers 12-10 while finishing with five shots on goal.

Ashley Rehagen and Olivia Berry split time in goal and both recorded three saves each. Berry earned the win playing the second half and golden-goal period.

Benedictine remains on the road for the Heart Semifinals. As the No. 5 seed in the tournament, they will travel to Fayette, Mo., to take on regular-season champion Central Methodist University at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Ravens hosted the Eagles to open up their 2020 fall schedule and earned a 3-2 win. The two teams matched up a season ago in the Heart Championship match with the Eagles earning a 3-2 win in the second golden-goal period.
