Men's Basketball holds off second-half run by Culver-Stockton to earn 9-point win

Ravens Men's Basketball gutted out a tough win Thursday night at home.

The Ravens turned a 59-59 tie into a 75-66 win to stay in first place in the Heart South.

A 15-point lead disappeared for the Ravens in the second half. With the Ravens up 56-41 with 11 minutes to play, it appeared the home squad had a comfortable victory in hand. However, the Wildcats went on an 18-3 run to even the score 59-59 with 6:18 to play.

The Ravens responded well, out-scoring the Wildcats 16-7 down the stretch to earn the win. Jayden Temme was clutch down the stretch, knocking down 9 free throws to help push the Ravens to the win.

Temme's 24 points was the high for the Ravens, and he also pulled down 4 rebounds. Joining Temme in double digits were Matt Austin and Eric Krus, who scored 16 and 12 points, respectively. 

The Ravens shot 51.1% from the field in the game and knocked down 42.1% from 3-point range. Defensively, they held the Wildcats to 40.3% shooting and 30% from deep. Jalen Blaize scored 15 points for Culver, about 3 points lower than his season average, and the Ravens held Alonzo Traylor-Ortiz to 5 points, 13 points below his season average.

The Ravens held a 10-point lead after 20 minutes of action, 34-24. Austin's 11 points and Temme's 10 points helped push the Ravens in front of the visiting Wildcats in the opening half.

As a team, the Ravens shot 52.2% from the floor and 40% from behind the 3-point arc in the opening half. On the other end, the Ravens defense held Culver to 34.4% shooting and 22.2% from deep. The Ravens also pulled down five more rebounds than the Wildcats in the first half.

With the win, the Ravens improve to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in Heart of America Conference play, and lead the Heart South Division. Next up is a trip to No. 2 William Penn University on Saturday, Jan. 22.
