SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Volleyball opened up the second part of Heart South play on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss at the hands of Evangel University.
In their first meeting back on campus on Sept. 30, the Ravens earned a 3-2 win over the Valor. This time around, the Valor limited the Ravens attack to earn the sweep.
Maura Lickteig led the attack, finishing the match with 8 kills. Regan Bruggeman added 7 while Mary Pat Taylor finished with 6. As a team, the Ravens finished with an attack percentage of .118. Haley Cahill finished the match with 20 assists while Marissa Mantz added 9.
Defensively, the Ravens finished with 7 team blocks at the net, recording 10 block assists and 2 solo blocks. Lickteig finished with 2 block assists and a solo block. Taylor and Haylie Dickerson added 3 block assists each while Sabrina Oncins finished with one block assist and one solo block. Kristijana Istuk was the only back-row player to reach double figures in digs with 11.
Evangel finished the match hitting .314 and used a .414 attack effort in set 2 to pull away from the Ravens after a closely contested opening set.
Benedictine hosts No. 20 Central Methodist University at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting Missouri Valley College at 11 a.m. Saturday. Friday night's match with the Eagles is the Ravens annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match as the program does its part to raise awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer.
