OLATHE – After sweeping Raven Volleyball in their first meeting of the season back on Sept. 20, No. 10 MNU needed five sets on Thursday to beat the Ravens.
After falling 26-24 in the first set, the Ravens rattled off wins of 25-19 and 25-18 to take control of the match. The Pioneers battled from behind to take set four 25-16 and then earned a 15-6 win in set five to escape with the win.
Benedictine finished the match with a season-high in blocks at 13. Maura Lickteig led the way with 7 block assists and 2 solo blocks while Joslyn Lewis and Sabrina Oncins finished with 3 block assists and 1 solo block each.
After narrowly dropping the first set hitting just .091, the Ravens attack heated up over the next two sets. Benedictine hit .306 in set two and .375 in set three before being limited to a negative attack percentage over the final two sets of the match.
Oncins set a new career-high in kills with 21 as she finished with a match-high total. Mary Pat Taylor added 17 kills while Regan Bruggeman finished with 9. Haley Cahill and Marissa Mantz helped anchor the offensive attack with Cahill tallying 25 assists with Mantz adding 23.
Kristijana Istuk led the Ravens backline defense with 26 digs while Taylor added 16. Oncins gave the Ravens three players in double figures as she added 12 digs.
Benedictine wraps up the regular season with a pair of home matches. First up on Saturday at 11 a.m. is a match with No. 13 Park University before wrapping up their schedule at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 against Baker University.
