CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Men's Basketball connected on 13 3-pointers on Saturday en route to a Heart-opening win over Mount Mercy University.
For the fifth time in their last six meetings with the Mustangs, the Ravens converted double figures from behind the arc as they connected on 56.5 percent en route to a 77-65 win.
After playing to a 14-point tie, Benedictine closed the half outscoring Mount Mercy 22-9 to take a 13-point lead into halftime. Sam Ungashick gave the Ravens their first double-digit lead on a 3-pointer with 3:05 left in the half before Anthony Hall hit the final basket of the half.
Ahmad Louis opened the second half with a basket in the paint to push Benedictine's advantage to 15 points. The Mustangs were able to close within seven points inside the first four minutes of the second half, but a 3-pointer from Jayden Temme pushed Benedictine back ahead by 10 points.
Benedictine remained ahead by double figures throughout most of the second half, building as much as a 17-point lead on a 3-pointer from Louis. The Mustangs didn't back down, cutting the Ravens lead back to single digits twice with around 4 minutes remaining before the Ravens closed the game out holding the Mustangs to just 3 points over the final 3 minutes.
Four Ravens finished in double figures, led by Belt with 16. Louis and Ungashick added 13 while Brycen LaRue added 12 points off the bench as Benedictine finished with a 31-22 advantage in bench scoring.
Benedictine hosts Baker University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for their annual Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night.
