Baseball splits Saturday games at second-annual Cajun Collision

STERLINGTON, La. – Raven Baseball split their final pair of games Saturday as they took part in the second-annual Cajun Collision on Friday and Saturday. 

Benedictine earned a 7-2 win over Louisana Christian before falling to LSU-Alexandria, 11-1, to wrap up the trip. 

The first day of the trip saw the Ravens drop a pair of games to No. 14 Science & Arts (Okla.), 13-6, and No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.) 11-3.

Nelson Klein picked up the win over Louisana Christian. He threw six innings, giving up two runs off three hits with seven strikeouts. Offensively, Jacob Slaten recorded a home run while scoring twice. Zac Demos recorded a pair of RBIs while Jacob Pavlyak was also credited with an RBI.

In the loss to LSU-Alexandria, Cole Voss suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs off three hits over three innings. The Ravens were held to just four hits with Hunter Moffett recording the lone RBI.

On Saturday, the Ravens jumped out to a 4-1 lead over USAO before the Drovers scored 11 straight to blow open the game. Ian O'Malley suffered the loss. He went three innings, giving up five earned runs off five hits. Making his 2022 season debut, Jackson Doherty recorded a grand slam in the first for his first hit of the season. Pavlyak went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Drew Piontek added went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.

The Ravens struck first in Saturday's nightcap but then gave up 11 unanswered against the Fire. Andrew Baier suffered the loss, throwing three and one-third innings. He gave up seven runs off five hits with seven strikeouts. Pavlyak hit the only extra-base hit for the Ravens, a double, as he was also credited with the Ravens only RBI.

Benedictine remains on the road Tuesday, traveling to Leavenworth to take on the University of St. Mary in a single 9-inning game at 2 p.m.
