For the third time in four games, the Raven Softball team walked off Ravens field with a rally to earn a win.
After opening the season on Monday with a pair of walk-off wins, Benedictine rallied in the second game against Concordia (Neb.) University on Saturday for their third walk-off win of the week to earn a split. The Bulldogs took the opener on Sunday, 4-2. before the Ravens won game two, 9-8, in 9 innings.
Tied at 7-7 after seven innings, the game went to the international tie-breaker in extra innings as each team started their turn at the plate with a runner on second. After matching each other with a run in the eighth inning, the Ravens held the Bulldogs scoreless in the top of the ninth setting up the walk-off. Lenea Salinas singled left-centerfield to score Madison Zaccardo to win the game.
A four-run third inning proved to be the difference in game one. After going scoreless over the first two innings, Concordia got three unearned runs out of their four in the third to take a 4-0 lead over Benedictine. The Ravens rallied for two runs of their own in the fourth on an RBI triple from Clare Heitz and a single by Salinas.
MacKenzie Pinkerton was outdueled the circle for the Ravens by Bulldog starter Camry Moore. Moore held the Ravens to just two runs off seven hits with 10 strikeouts en route to the win. Pinkerton went the distance, giving up two earned runs off six hits with one strikeout.
Salinas finished game one with two hits, adding a double to her RBI single.
In game two, the Ravens pulled ahead 4-0 after two innings. The Bulldogs scored twice in the third and then took the lead with a five-run sixth inning as they looked poised for the sweep. Benedictine rallied in their half of the inning as they scored two runs off a single by Zaccardo and then tied the game up on n RBI double from Heitz. Megan Medhus and Halley Rindom added a double each as Ally Pickering and Zaccardo finished with two RBI each.
Kera Willoughby got her second win of the season in relief inside the circle. She threw the final three and one-third innings, holding the Bulldogs to just two hits with two strikeouts.
Benedictine has added a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Monday with Haskell Indian Nations University back on Ravens Field after they were not able to host a doubleheader on Saturday to do the cold temperatures in Atchison.
