Raven Softball dropped a pair of extra-inning games to a hot Northwestern (Iowa) University Red Raider team on Tuesday to wrap up their season-opening homestand.
It took 9 innings to decide both games as Benedictine fell in game one, 2-1, and game two, 13-8.
In the opener, Jenna Drish threw all 9 innings of the game as she held the Red Raiders scoreless until the eighth inning. Neither run she allowed was earned as she gave up seven hits.
At the plate, the Ravens were limited to just five hits. Kaitlyn Fanning went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
In game two, the two teams combined for 26 hits and used a combination of six pitchers. Makenzie Pinkerton earned the start for the Ravens, throwing the first inning and two-thirds. She was credited with giving up three earned runs off three hits. Alicia Armijo and Kera Willoughby combined to throw the next five and one-third before Drish finished off the final two innings in the loss.
Madison Zaccardo and Lenea Salinas went 3 for 5 with three RBI each at the plate. Salinas finished with two doubles and a home run while Zaccardo added a double and home run. A seventh-inning double by Salinas drove in Clare Heitz to send the game into extra innings. Heitz and Fanning added a double each while Megan Medhus added two RBI.
The Ravens hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Wichita on March 4-5 for a four-game tournament hosted by Friends University.
