BALDWIN CITY – (RV) Baker University swept Raven Softball on Wednesday afternoon as Benedictine opened up Heart play.
Baker scored five runs in the second inning before they were held scoreless the rest of the way as they were able to take game one, 5-3. In game two, the Wildcats hit a three-run walk-off home run in the seventh inning of the game to two to take a 9-6 win and earn the sweep.
In the opener, Jenna Drish earned the start for the Ravens inside the circle. After holding the Wildcats scoreless in the first, she allowed five runs in the second before she was relieved by Kera Willoughby. Willoughby held Baker hitless the rest of the game to give Benedictine a chance at the plate.
The Ravens were able to match the Wildcats with five hits, but could only plate three. Lenae Salinas went 2 for 3 while Clare Heitz, Natalie Sheffield, and Isabella Ingui finished with an RBI each.
In game two, the Ravens scored five runs over the first two innings in support of MacKenzie Pinkerton inside the circle. She threw two and one-third innings, giving up two earned runs off four hits before Willoughby threw the next three and two-thirds. Drish entered in the seventh and suffered the loss.
Kailyn Fanning went 3 for 4 while Ally Pickering went 2 for 4. Heitz added a double and three RBI while Sheffield finished with a double and RBI.
The Ravens were scheduled to play in Olathe on Friday against MNU, but that doubleheader has been postponed because of Friday's rainy forecast. At the time of this release, the reschedule date for the doubleheader has not been set.
