Game Recap: Softball |

Softball earns Sunday sweep over Peru State on Senior Day

Ravens Softball earned their seventh and eighth-straight wins at home Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens swept the Peru State College Bobcats with matching 8-0 scores.

Game 1

The Ravens got rolling early in the opening game of the doubleheader, plating 4 runs in the first inning. Kylie Hays singled in Megan Medhus to open the scoring, then Hays scored on a single by Madison Zaccardo. After a Lenae Salinas single, Ally Pickering drove in Zaccardo and then Chloe Strickland singled in Salinas.

The Ravens added another pair of runs in the second as Zaccardo doubled home Medhus, then Strickland walked with the bases loaded to push in Zaccardo.

To close out the run-rule in the fifth inning, Hays tripled in Alicia Armijo and Dez Duncan. Hays finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBIs.

MacKenzie Pinkerton pitched the first couple innings for the Ravens, allowing one hit and one walk. She was replaced by Armijo, who closed out the final 3 innings, striking out 3 batters.

Game 2

The Ravens did the bulk of their damage in the second inning in Game 2. After plating 1 run in the first, the Ravens scored 7 in the second, aided by an error by the Bobcats that allowed Clare Heitz to reach with 1 out in the inning. That was followed by Halley Rindom's single and a bunt hit by Kassidy James. With the bases loaded, Medhus doubled down the left-field line to score all 3 runners. Medhus then stole third and scored on a wild throw by the PSC catcher.

Following a Zaccardo single, Salinas blasted a home run to center, then Kaitlyn Fanning doubled home Pickering to give the Ravens an 8-0 lead.

The Ravens pitchers made that lead stick. Kera Willoughby pitched 4 innings, striking out 1 batter and allowing just 2 hits. Armijo took to the circle for the final frame, picking up a strikeout.

Both Medhus and Salinas had 3 RBIs in the game to lead the Ravens.

The Ravens have now swept their past 4 doubleheaders, improving to 22-16 on the season, and 12-12 in Heart of America play. They'll hit the road for their next three doubleheaders, starting with a trip to Grand View University on Monday, April 18.
