Men's Soccer dropped a heartbreaker at home in their Heart Conference opener Wednesday.
The Ravens were defeated by the Park University Pirates, 1-0, with a late equalizing goal by the Ravens being disallowed by the officials.
Down 1-0, the Ravens seemed to gain an advantage when a Park player was shown a red card and sent off. Up a man with 30 minutes to play, the Ravens pushed forward.
With just under 5 minutes to play, Dylan Posada chested a ball by the keeper and then shot into the empty net for what seemed like a goal to tie the game, 1-1. However, the official decided Posada made contact with the keeper and waived the goal off. The Ravens were unable to score in the closing minutes, dropping their record to 3-3-1 and 0-1 in Heart play.
The Pirates held a 1-0 lead at halftime due to an unlucky break by the Ravens. Moments after Ravens keeper Noah Reuscher punched a strong Park shot away to keep the game scoreless,
the Pirates sent a cross deep into the box and, in an effort to clear the pass, the Ravens defender headed the ball off the crossbar and just over the goal line to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Park took its 1-0 lead into the halftime break, creating more scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. The Pirates outshot the Ravens 6-2, and 3-1 in shots on goal. The Ravens were too aggressive at times, being whistled three times for having an attacker offside.
Playing 11-on-10 for 30 minutes to close out the game, the Ravens did have an offensive advantage in the second half, outshooting the Pirates 10-3 in the final 45 minutes.
The Ravens will close out a four-match homestand when they take on Evangel University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
