Men's Soccer made a second-minute goal stand in a 1-0 win Saturday.
The Ravens defeated the Evangel University Valor to level their Heart record at 1-1 on the season.
Adem Aroua got the Ravens on the board early. Tracking down a pass into the box, Aroua gathered possession, turned, and slipped a left-footed shot past the Valor keeper to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead before 2 minutes had passed in the match – Aroua's fourth goal of the season. While at times it didn't seem likely, it wound up being the only goal of the match.
The Ravens played the role of aggressors in the first 45 minutes as Evangel was content to sit in its defensive half and then try to counter-attack. The Ravens had 6 shots, 3 shots on goal, while the Valor had just 1 shot which was saved by Noah Reuscher. The Ravens also had 5 corners in the first half but weren't able to score from the set pieces.
The pressure by the home side continued in the second half. The Ravens added 12 more shots in the second half and 6 more corner kicks. However, each time the Ravens looked like a second goal was imminent, the shot was saved or sailed off frame.
Reuscher made 5 saves in goal for the Ravens, including a key save with about 17 minutes left in the match as a Valor attacker had slipped behind the Ravens back line.
The Ravens improve to 4-3-1 on the season and will hit the road for their next contest. They'll take on (8) MidAmerica Nazarene University Wednesday, Sept. 21.
