Women's Soccer started conference play on the right foot, earning a home win Wednesday evening.
The (RV) Ravens controlled the pace of play for 90 minutes, picking up a 2-0 win with a goal in each half.
The Ravens notched their first score of the game with 18 minutes to go in the first half. Rachel Beffa lined up a corner kick, finding Emma Applegate on the other end, who headed it into the goal to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.
Applegate's goal was the only one scored in the opening 45 minutes. The Ravens outshot the Pirates 11-3, with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Olivia Berry made 3 saves in goal for the Ravens.
With just over 13 minutes left to play, Riley Degner doubled the Ravens lead. She sorted through the box and beat the Park keeper, who had stumbled to the ground. Kourtney Koc earned the assist.
The domination of possession by the Ravens carried over from the first half to the second half. The Ravens finished with 21 total shots, compared to 6 for Park, and had a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Ravens also had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks, scoring the game's opening goal on a corner. Berry played all 90 minutes in goal for the Ravens to earn the clean sheet.
The Ravens move to 4-3 on the season and open Heart of America play 1-0. Next up is another home conference contest when the Ravens play Evangel University at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 on Legacy Field.
